The Island Museum offers a complete view of Cozumel in four exhibition halls. Conceived as an instrument of historic and ecological education, bits of pieces will take you through time, since the formation of the island to present day. You will have an unforgettable experience since we always have temporary and permanent expositions by local and international artists.
Visiting the Island Museum is mandatory when you go to downtown Cozumel. The museum is located on Rafael E. Melgar Ave. between 8th and 10th St.
The museum provides information on Cozumel natural and cultural history. The museum is clean, the exhibitions are well set, and is air-conditioned to make your visit more pleasant. The Island Museum also has a public library, an auditorium, a bookstore and a couple of handicrafts stores.. On the terrace of the museum's top floor there is a restaurant and coffee shop with a beautiful view of the Caribbean Sea.

The museum is well integrated with the community. Year round the museum coordinates activities with local schools. The museum also bring temporary exhibitions and host cultural events. The museum is managed by the Cozumel Parks and Museums Foundation. The fee you pay is used to preserve Cozumel history and support the cultural activities and research done by the foundation. The house where the museum is located is also of historic importance to Cozumel. The construction was the first hotel on the island.
